Background

In the urbanized portion of the City of Vaughan west of Highway 400, there are a number of missing links and jogs in the arterial road network, including:
  • Langstaff Road missing link west of Islington Avenue;
  • The jog in Major Mackenzie at Highway 27;
  • Kipling Avenue ends north of Langstaff Road; and
  • The Pine Valley Drive missing link south of Rutherford Road.
Together, these discontinuities have put significant pressure on the arterial network, particularly in light of continued rapid growth in this part of the city. The map below shows all of the missing links within the study area.

As a result, the purpose of this project is to identify transportation deficiencies in Western Vaughan, develop alternatives to address the problems and obtain environmental approvals for the preferred alternative. The preferred alternative could consist of a number of related or unrelated transportation improvements that will be needed to satisfy east-west and north-south travel demands in the year 2031.
